Kingston Libraries’ BIG Summer Read is a free program for independent readers aged 5 - 16 years to join, read and win prizes over the summer holidays.

This program is a great opportunity to maintain your literacy skills or boost your summer reading. Come and explore our collections - our huge range of books and audiobooks, both physically and digitally, are ready and waiting for you to read!

How to enter

  1. Create a Kingston Libraries Beanstack account (if you don't already have one). This can be done via the Beanstack website or app, available to download for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  2. Pop into your local Kingston Library and collect your free tote bag.
  3. Start reading! Add the title of the books you have read into your Beanstack account.
  4. Complete the BIG Summer Read challenge by reading 10 books to be in the draw for the major prizes.

Register with Beanstack and complete the BIG Summer Read challenge to automatically enter the major prize draw!

Win one of the following prizes:

  • 1st prize (ages 11-16) - Nintendo Switch Lite & $100 Village Cinema voucher
  • 1st prize - (ages 5-10) - Nintendo Switch Lite & a Museums Victoria Family annual membership
  • 2nd prize - (all ages) - $100 Westfield Voucher
  • 3rd prize (all ages) - $50 Cook & Young Bookstore Voucher

Weekly prize draw

To enter, complete at least one character badge per week, such as the Angela badge with the following activities:

  • Submit a review on Beanstack for one of the books you logged for the challenge.
  • Sign into BorrowBox using your library card. Borrow an eBook or an eAudiobook and log the title for the challenge.
  • Read a book that’s been made into a film, or watch a film based on a children’s book.

Statewide prize draw

When you complete your BIG Summer Read challenge through Beanstack, you are automatically entered into both the Kingston Libraries and the statewide prize draw!

Conditions of entry

  • The BIG Summer Read program is for children and youth from ages 5 to 16, who can read independently.
  • You must be a member of Kingston Libraries. If you are not a member, please visit our libraries or website to sign up.
  • You do not have to be a resident of Kingston Council.
  • The competition opens on 1 December 2022 and closes on 31 January 2023.
  • You can read or listen to any book that is at your reading level.
  • Major prizes will be drawn at Kingston Libraries on Friday 10 February 2023.
  • Winners will be contacted via phone or email within one week of the draw.
  • If a major prize is not claimed within 2 weeks of the draw, there will be a redraw for that prize.
  • Participants are eligible to win one major prize only.
  • Participants can enter the major prize draw more than once as long as they complete a new set of reading each time.
  • Entry into the Major prize draw requires the logging of 10 book titles via Beanstack.
