Story Lines writing competition 2024

If you live, learn, work or play in the City of Kingston, you are eligible to enter our Story Lines writing competition for the chance to win fabulous prizes and have your story published.

The age categories are 5 to 7 years, 8 to 10 years, 11 to 13 years and 14 to 16 years.

There will be 3 prizes awarded per age group. Prizes include Westfield vouchers and winners will be published in our 2024 Story Lines book.

Our annual short story and poem writing competition commences Monday 15 July and closes Sunday 22 September.

Winners will be announced on Friday 25 October.

The entry form will be available to download here or picked up from branches on the Monday 15 July.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Entry is free
  2. Submissions must be G-Rated
  3. One entry per person
  4. Entry is open to anyone who is aged 5 to 16 years and lives, goes to school or plays in the City of Kingston
  5. Word limit: strict 500 words. Entries over the limit will not be accepted
  6. Story or poem must be an original work
  7. Any illustrations submitted will not be included if story is successfully published
  8. Entries open Monday 15 July and close Sunday 22 September 2024
  9. Winners announced Friday 25 October from 4pm, via our website and social media (Facebook and Instagram)
  10. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into
  11. Winning entries from each age group will be published on Kingston Libraries' website
  12. Selected entries will be collated and published in a book
  13. Entries will not be returned
  14. Win Westfield vouchers!
  • 1st prize: $150
  • 2nd prize: $100
  • 3rd prize: $50.
