Computers and Internet conditions of use

Kingston Libraries is committed to equal access to information for all. As part of this commitment the library has Internet connected PCs and free Wi-Fi at all library branches. All patrons wishing to use the PCs or Wi-Fi must comply with these conditions of use.  Any breach by users may result in access to library services suspended or withdrawn.

Users must abide by copyright and all other applicable Federal, State and Local laws.

All material accessed must be appropriate to a public access area.

Council reserves the right to implement software and hardware control mechanisms to block information the library has determined inconsistent with its mission.

The user acknowledges that use of the computers and the internet is entirely at the user’s risk. City of Kingston is not responsible for any loss or damage occurring from the use of this resource, including accuracy or content of web sites, technical difficulties, service interruptions, loss or corruption of data or the transmission of computer viruses.

PC bookings

A current library membership is required to use the public PCs.

Bookings open a week in advance. Advance bookings are not required but are recommended.

Members may have one future booking at a time. Bookings are for a one-hour session, however if there are vacant PCs at the end of the session, the user may have the opportunity to continue using the PC until it is required by another user or the member has reached a daily maximum of 4 hours.

Bookings are not transferrable and will become invalid if the user does not claim the booking within 15 minutes of the booked start time.

Public PCs will automatically end a member’s session after

  • one hour if all PCs of that type are in use by other users
  • one hour if it is the accessibility PC
  • 5 minutes before the library closing time

It is the responsibility of the user to observe a booking’s remaining time and to save/print off required documents before the session ends. No information saved to the PC will be retained after the booking has ended.

Users are not permitted to load software onto library computers or make any changes to PC settings or hardware.
