Volunteer

Home library service volunteers select and deliver books and resources to the community. Their home visits are a highlight for homebound library members. It's a great opportunity to share and discover favourite books, authors and films.

Join the home library service volunteer team:

  • support Kingston community members
  • learn new skills
  • meet new and like-minded people
  • chat about books with fellow book-lovers

Email homelibrary@kingston.vic.gov.au or call 1300 135 668.

Work experience

We are committed to providing opportunities to as many local secondary school students as possible. We can offer a maximum of one week of work experience per student. Library hours of work are Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm unless otherwise specified.

Applicants should note that every effort is made to place students, however there is a high demand particularly at peak times of the year including June, July and November and we may not be able to accommodate all requests.

Industry placement

Students currently enrolled in an ALIA-approved course are eligible to apply for an industry placement as a requirement to complete their qualifications. Placement dates, times and frequency are arranged by agreement with students, however industry placement students will not be rostered for evening or weekend shifts.

Placements are offered at Chelsea, Cheltenham or Parkdale library. In addition, some time may be rostered in our operations team during the placement.

To apply, please contact our customer service team leader to discuss your needs. Phone 1300 135 668 or email library@kingston.vic.gov.au.
