Thank you to everyone who contributed to our community survey on neurodiversity and Kingston Libraries.

We received some great suggestions and would love to let you know about just some of the actions we're working towards (and some of the things that we're already doing!):

Programs

  • All our storytimes include a visual schedule board, which show what is coming up in the session as well as a Time Timer to help us all understand the passage of time.
  • Our afterschool STEAM Club program functions as a drop in session with no bookings required to help with flexibility for those who can't attend the whole session
  • NEW in 2024 - Small Group Storytime next year at Cheltenham, which will be a limited numbers session for those who prefer an enclosed environment, with lights switched off and greater interaction with your child.
  • NEW in 2024 - Chapters & Chat for tweens/teens, fortnightly at Chelsea Library. An opportunity for all to come together in an enclosed space to chat about everything books.

Equipment/tools

  • Communication boards at all of our branches which are visible at our service desks
  • Social story on our website for people who might want to prepare themselves prior to visiting our libraries
  • Sensory kits are being trialled at several branches for people who want something to occupy them while studying/playing.
  • COMING in 2024 - Online 3D walkthrough of the library branches.
