Genre: Non-Fiction

Format: Book

Why I chose this book:

I’ve read Savva’s other books covering election campaigns and found them interesting, with insights into the reasons for internal decisions taken by the campaigns that may have changed the direction and perhaps even the outcome of an election campaign.

Quick Summary:

This is the story of the 2025 election that continues to reverberate through the political landscape of Australia.

What I thought:

I was a little disappointed by this one because the first third of the book is simply reprints of Savva’s newspaper columns from the time without additional commentary or context for the larger campaign.

The book then moves into the story of what was actually happening behind the scenes. A format where the columns were interspersed in the narrative, rather than as a separate chunk would have worked better, especially given that some aged better than others and it would have been interesting if Sava had engaged more with her initial analysis.

It felt like a book Savva wrote because the outcome was so dramatic for both major parties, rather than because she was committed to exploring the events in long form from the start, making it seem rushed and slapped together with a shallower exploration than I had hoped for.
