Children's Book Week
Published on 01 August 2025
Do you remember the thrill of dressing up for Children’s Book Week? The excitement of choosing your favourite book character, the creative chaos of pulling together costumes, and the joy of arriving at school or the library transformed into Cat in the Hat, Alice in Wonderland, Macca the Alpaca, Matilda, or Mary Poppins?
This year marks 80 years of Book Week celebrations across Australia. Since 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has inspired generations of young readers by bringing stories to life through costume, creativity and imagination. This year's theme is Book an Adventure!
Running from August 16 to 23, Book Week is a chance for children everywhere to celebrate their love of reading, books, authors and illustrators — and libraries play a big part in the fun.
We’re joining in the fun with a week of special storytimes, perfect for young readers and dress-up fans. Come along dressed as your favourite character. We can’t wait to see the costumes, capes, crowns, and critters you’ve chosen!
