Kingston Libraries are free to join and open to anyone living in Victoria.

To join, visit any of our branches and bring identification (Show info). You will also need to provide a phone number and email address.

If you are under 15, a parent or legal guardian will need to come with you and provide their identification as the guarantor on the card. If you are 15 or older you can join the library with your own identification.

If you don't have any suitable forms of identification (Show info), please contact the library to discuss alternatives.

Another option is to join online and receive a temporary three month membership providing you instant access to our digital library. If you wish to continue using our digital library or borrow physical items, please visit any of our branches and bring identification.

Community Languages

We have books, magazines, newspapers, and DVDs in several community languages. We can transfer these if you would prefer to collect them at another branch.

  • Chinese - Clarinda Library and Westall Library
  • Greek - Clarinda Library
  • Italian - Clarinda Library

Book group sets

We have over 35 book titles available for loan as a set of 10. Perfect for reading groups struggling to find 10 copies of the same book.

Book group sets are available for collection in the first week of the month and can be borrowed for 6 weeks with no renewals.

Each book group will need a convenor who will be responsible for borrowing the set of books on their card, ensuring all books are returned on time as a set and dealing with any replacement costs for missing books or damaged books that cannot be repaired.

Returns

Items can be returned at any Kingston Libraries branch. Our branches all have a returns chute outside the library that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

There are no fines for late returns, but any overdue items need to be returned before you can borrow again. Remember, others may be waiting to borrow the item you have at home, so prompt returns by the due date is appreciated.

Library app

Download the Kingston Libraries App on your phone or tablet from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to:

  • Store your library card in the app so you no longer need a physical card
  • Track and manage your loans, including renewals and holds (you can also link other family members cards, such as children)
  • Browse our catalogue and place holds, including eBooks and eAudiobooks
  • Check out physical items from one our branches (view tutorial)

Contact us if you need assistance setting up the app on your device or have any questions.

Lost or damaged items/cards

Contact us if you lose or damage an item. There will be a replacement charge for lost items or damaged items.

If you lose your library card, contact us immediately as you’re responsible for all items borrowed on your card. To replace your card, please see staff at any branch, showing identification (Show info) with your name and current address on it.

If your library card has been damaged, visit one of our branches with the damaged card to have it replaced. Please notify us if you may have printing money left on the card so we can check and transfer any credit.

There is no charge for replacing a lost or damaged card.
